I want to share a passage from the book I am reading. It is Sixteen Brides by Stephanie Grace Whitson. The man talking had been in the war and lost part of his arm. He had been encouraging a friend to read in the Bible.
"Did I say I had all the answers? No if you think I said I have all the answers, you misunderstood. I don't. I do, however, believe, ......that the only answers that matter are right here (In The Bible)....We all have to find our own way.... For me it came after a long winter reading this book. Mostly the story of a man named Job.....Job convinced me losing my hand wasn't punishment for something I'd done. It also convinced me that I'll never--- this side of eternity---have answers to all my questions, but that God doesn't mind me asking them, and he really only requires one thing of me. Putting my hand over my mouth and listening."
I thought this went along with the Scripture I posted from Job the other day. We do question why? Along with the questioning we have to recognize the Deity of the one in control and bow to His wisdom. Make your requests known. Question the whys but always be silent for the One in control to council, comfort and guide you. Be still in His presence and leave it with Him.
Zita, this made me think of a summer I had with my grands. It was a very spiritual summer. We read a Bible story everyday.., read the prayer of Jabez, and other scriptures..had extended prayer and for an added twist we would sit or lay in total quiet for 20 minutes after prayer hoping to hear from God. We agreed to share what we heard if it needed to be shared...for several days we didn't hear anything. Then one day I had a very vivid "word" from God about an overflowing cup..that is what we were going to have from God..Nick was very impressed..he said I really wanted to hear from God but all I could think of was....20 minutes is a long time to be quiet...I think his God "word" was in many ways much more profound than mine...It IS hard to shut up for even 20 minutes and wait to hear from God....
